Caroline, it's so good that you have included the audio for your good, deep, talking with Paul Kingsnorth. I had 'watched' it previously, but not being a YouTube fan, I turned the screen away so I could listen and, as you say, do some handwork (crocheting dishcloths from mercerised cotton in bright colours for gifts). Listening goes deeper than watching, at least for me.
Northumberland is a beautiful place, we are hoping to make a summering hut of sorts in the north of County Durham to be near our daughter who is about to give birth. The A68 road through Northumberland coming down from Scotland is unforgettable and the area is so full of story as well as history.
I hope all goes very well with your move. Much gratitude for your work, blessings to you.
Thankyou so much. That road is great, all the way to Corbridge and beyond. I too have been crocheting dishcloths, simple, settling tasks amid the turmoil. I have never been into Durham but am reading about it now in the book about St Cuthbert's people, 'Cuddy'. It's high on my to-go list.
I just listened to the first bit of this goodness, as I'm down at my folks helping to prepare for their move and they have good internet. Just a bit of you in my ear makes good tinder for the day of packing and truck driving ahead. Thank you for proceeding in the world as you do, Caro!
I loved your conversation with Paul and have been discussing it and sharing it with friends . As I’m slow travelling the next few days I may listen again ! I too couldn’t easily categorise my budding substack as I like to write about all sorts of random things
By the way the essay you wrote about discussing the weather was wonderful ! Abd what is that ? Philosophy , culture goodness knows …..
And I hope your transition to the North brings fruitfulness and joy and becomes home for you easefully ….For don’t we carry home within us really and carry it with us to each new place.
I have no idea what the other categories to choose from are but if the first one is Philosophy, the second one should be something tangible, like Craft.
Caroline, I have categorized your substack seemingly in the same vein as most others, however, as a person interested in the old ways of our culture, I'm feeling for all those to whom this is also important as they might miss this other creative endeavour which you bring to the table.......I enjoyed Paul Kingsnorth's interview with you......it was so lovely to see your name come up on my Youtube feed. I look forward to following your journey wherever it takes you.
Congratulations! I chose ‘culture’ but my first was ‘other’ because I was thinking that beautiful visual art is what initially drew me to you. I quickly realized that you also write and speak beautifully!
Yes, no other categories are even vaguely useful, so I use keyword tags in my settings, I live in hope! Intrigued which of the many stories DH may have saved up already that he shared :)
Without looking I can't do it justice: a one line summary for promoting his book, something about a hole with no bottom and the man with two graves? It tickled Dougald and gave me a laugh. I will look it up again.

Thankyou! Not having a neat pigeon hole doesn't bother me personally, but it's fun to learn where Uncivil Savant should be categorised on here.
If you enjoyed the talk with Paul then the one from last year with Dougald Hine might be nice for your slow travel: https://youtu.be/MjWFZ44Xch4

Thanks. If only Substack had ‘Craft’. They have art and illustration, but that doesn’t fit.

Your and Paul Kingsnorth's conversation is well worth taking in. BTW Dougald Hind had a lovely story about you the other day
Poll? I didn't know substack had the list to choose from when I ticked 'other'. Guess it has to be 'philosophy'. Hang out more tags? Smile.

That was this week! Fun… thanks.
