So much in truth in this; thank you for sharing. It beautifully highlights the disconnect and abstraction in many people's lives. I can't imagine waking up and not being focused on the weather - how do you plan your day? It is summer here in the southern hemisphere, and how our poor chickens would suffer if I tried to neglect the 37 degree heat and 99% humidity!
Loved this, Caroline. Felt it hum in ‘me bones’ .The first thing I look to each day - the weather, the world around me, outside of my human shelter. It impacts my moods, thoughts, meditations for the day (indoor or outdoor, open or covered?) exercise, tending to the plants I share space with and honestly the whole way I move through the planes of this existence.
I really do love the weather! For one who seeks novelty it offers endless opportunity and nuance, what cloud graces the sky today? What colo(u)r the dawn? Can I see the mountains? Does the breeze blow?
Today we awoke to more snow, sharp dry air, white sky, and a rare mist rolling by. Pure, slow, winter delight.
Winter has so much to offer in subtleties of hue and fleeting light effects. It is often the first point of contact for a new baby with the entirely non-human (family pets are somehow within the human domain...) If we can attend to what is not paying attention to us, but is there without us, such as the weather, we may at least briefly escape the hall of mirrors of the conditioned mind. Good wishes to you from Devon.
The sun is shining here today, I'm about to go for a stroll to practice stories and this was a throughly enjoyable late breakfast read, thank you. I hope the weather is good where you are.
Thank you for this down-to-earth take. I use the term deliberately, because excluding the weather is another form of excluding the Earth, and in the end our rejoicing or sheltering from it is a participation in her life cycle. I was always fascinated how the weather is such a common ground for conversation, like a species memory that it is a vital concern for everyone's survival.
Exactly. 'Earth' goes all the way up to the troposphere, and has solid, liquid and gas layers. This roiling ball of home is always a worthy conversation topic.

Milder here this week
This is good to know.
It is pleasingly mysterious to not know in what way it is now milder than it was before. Happy New Year!
